About the artistBeverly Anne (Watkins) Stewart

Beverly was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents from eastern Newfoundland. She was raised and resides in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario. Her east coast heritage is a strong influence in her life and this is reflected in her art works.

As a budding Canadian scenic artist, Beverly has produced fine art using a variety of media including charcoal, pen, and oil pastels. Her favoured medium, however, is acrylic paint on canvas. Her focus is typically on the tranquil beauty of nature and she often draws from her east coast heritage for this subject. Her love of animals is also a favoured subject as she is often inspired by the power and beauty of wild creatures.

As an serious artist, Beverly has always been eager to explore different media in a quest to find new and exciting ways to channel her creative talents. During this quest, Beverly has discovered a passion and a talent for expression in sculpture. She first began dabbling in sculpture with clay and wood, but has found stone to be her favourite medium. Working with various types of soapstone and alabaster, she draws again from her love of animals to produce beautiful carvings of polar bears, seals, and other wildlife. When asked how she transforms a lump of raw stone into a representational work she replies that "What is in the stone becomes more and more clear to me as I carve. I just chip away pieces and the figure inside is revealed. "

While her talent is natural, her art is not uncultured. Beverly studied at the University of Toronto and holds a degree in fine art. She also holds a diploma in graphic arts from George Brown College in Toronto.

Beverly’s art is displayed at various shows in the southern Ontario region and is available for purchase via this web site or via Gallery Jeanette. Her work has been displayed in several public venues including the prestigious annual McMichael Autumn Art Sale in Kleinburg, Ontario.
